Miercom was engaged by Cisco Systems to independently configure, operate, and validate the performance, power efficiency, and features of the Catalyst 9200CX compact switches. These switches represent the next generation of compact switches built upon the Catalyst 9000 Series.
Key Findings:
- Smart Building Solutions: The Catalyst C9200CX switches demonstrated support for powering IoT devices through innovative 802.3bt 60W Universal Power over Ethernet (UPOE) capabilities. Additionally, all the UPOE capabilities and metrics are visible through the Catalyst Center Assurance via a wide range of UPOE Dashboards. Furthermore, support of hVDC power supply models avoids double conversion from DC to AC, then AC to DC with considerably lower power losses compared to 120VAC over long distance lines and sustainable building designs for smart buildings.
- Builds on the capabilities of the C9200 series: Along with the programmability, full flexible NetFlow, cold patching, and trustworthy solutions capabilities of the C9200, the C9200CX adds SD-Access (supports up to 16 VNs), 802.3bt 60W UPOE, and MACsec-256.
- Delivers high availability (HA) capabilities with PoE: Supports 2-event classification, Perpetual PoE, and Fast PoE to keep PoE client devices resilient to switch downtime.
- Security: The C9200CX series offers enhanced security capabilities such as MACsec-256 and Trustworthy Solutions, keeping the access layer of the network secure.
- Multiple Management Options: For the C9200CX, management options range from classic CLI based management, to on-prem management with Catalyst Center, or management via the SaaS Meraki Dashboard-options are many!
- Various Deployment Choices: The C9200CX series can be positioned within the campus, large branch, small branch, small-office, and various other network vectors, making the switch very robust and fluid in usability.
- Exceptional Throughput and Latency: 100%-line rate across all packet sizes for every RFC test with exceptionally low average latency for frames larger than 400 bytes.
