Miercom was engaged by Cisco Systems to independently configure, operate, and validate the performance and feature capabilities of the Catalyst 9400 series switches with the C9400-SUP2/2XL supervisor cards. These supervisor models provide enhanced features and scale to meet the ever-changing network connectivity demands.
Key Findings:
• High-Performance Switching: Delivers up to 4.8 Tbps of switching capacity. In a 10- slot configuration, it supports up to 384 ports of 10G, 96 40G ports or 32 100G ports across the line cards and two supervisor-2 uplinks (4x100gig/40gig + 4x25gig/10gig).
• Security Enhancements: Provides comprehensive security across the network with advanced features like Encrypted Traffic Analytics (ETA). These switches support up to 300G of high-speed Layer 3 encryption (IPsec).
• Programmability and Automation: Supports Cisco Intent-Based Networking, making it programmable via APIs and managed through Cisco Catalyst Center.
• Enhanced Resilience: Includes redundant, field-replaceable power supplies and fans, along with In-Service Software Upgrades (ISSU) to minimize downtime during maintenance and upgrades.
• Future-Proof Investment: Supports the latest advancements such as 802.3bt Power over Ethernet (PoE), delivering up to 90W per port.
